It was so great to get to meet this fun family to do an in-home session with their new little one! I started off with the little guy in his space while the rest of the family finished up getting ready. We thought he’d conk out for most of the session, but he stayed awake the whole time.
He seemed content to be the center of attention and enjoyed the snuggle time! Big sister took a little time (and a couple of bribes) to get comfortable with me and my big camera, but we worked together and were able to capture some super fun images.
Dad came home and got some downtime with her while I got some images of just Mom and baby…
…then we got the whole family together for some silliness and cuddles.
I’m always amazed after a session how a family you have met for only a short time stays on your mind. I always enjoy working on the galleries and hearing updates on how their families are doing a few weeks later!
March was a month of lifestyle family/newborn sessions. Because this was a new genre I wanted to get into, I put out a model call so that I would have a good variety of images for future clients to see and know what to expect from this type of session. These sessions involve the whole family, and I love that! While a posed newborn session is all about the baby, these lifestyle sessions capture the physical and emotional environment that baby is being welcomed into, and help to tell the baby’s story. Here are some of my favorites from the month.
I was pretty excited to do a shoot with this family and their new little girl. I could tell as soon as I walked up to the door I was going to have fun with big brother too…he waited for me with a big grin and played peekaboo through the door!
After getting some sibling and family shots I was able to capture some images of Mom feeding her little girl. I love to get these moments and show context in the nursery!
And after bit of a cluster feed, baby drifted into a deep sleep and we were able to get some cute shots of her alone.
Thank you to the S family for allowing me to share a fun morning with them!
I had so much fun catching up with this family! I did some extended family photos with them last summer in Denver, so it was great to see them again and meet their newest little one!
These big sisters were so great…sweet with their little brother, and nice to each other too!
They showed me their rooms and we did a mini shoot with them while Mom got the baby to sleep.
I was even treated to a concert…This family loves making music together and I had fun shooting something different!
A big thank you to the M family for welcoming me into their home and allowing me to capture a glimpse of their lives with their new little boy.
This was a day I was glad to be doing an indoor shoot with this family and their newborn! The weathermen had been predicting high 50’s for the weekend in Northeast Iowa, but it just wasn’t happening…it’s early March after all.
When I got to their house, the girls met me at the door, watched me unload my stuff, and showed me their new room while mom finished nursing little brother, then we jumped right in to “picture time”.
After the sibling and family shots, the girls were thrilled to be allowed to put on their lip gloss…of course I had to capture their glamour!
The girls played while I spent some time with the little guy alone and with each parent. I love seeing how the baby just grabs their attention. It’s like you can’t help but talk to and stare at these new little ones!
Thank you “M” family for welcoming me into your home to capture this time for you!

Last week I was able to go back to get a few more pictures of Miss Lena. She is such a cutie and when she is awake she is constantly moving! They had beautiful dramatic light in this room, so we had to play around with it.
